Ministry Philosophy

In Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” In our Children’s Ministry here at Highland we want to remove any artificial barriers separating children from not only the rest of the Body of Christ but also in their own spiritual growth. We want children to know they are loved and teach them how to “…love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).

We believe that it is our calling to encourage and support families as God leads. For this reason each ministry provided strives to encourage families and help children as they grow and transition from one stage to another. We hope that you will join us for the fun and excitement! If you have any questions about Children’s Ministry, please contact Heidi.

Children's Church

At Highland, we believe that "children are a gift from God; they are a reward from Him" (Psalm 127:3).

We want to help children bridge the gap between nursery and attending / participating in “big” church. It is our goal at Highland to have children join in worship with all ages rather than be segregated. For this reason we provide our Children’s Church Ministry only during the sermon time, for ages 3-6 years old. Ideally, these children will attend service until the sermon so that they may learn about worshiping God and get used to sitting in service with their families. With this in mind, our Children’s Church structure and program is designed to train children as we strive to help prepare them to participate in corporate worship. Once children have been promoted from this program we offer children’s bulletins with a “Sermon Notes” section to teach children how to interact with the morning's sermon and take notes. These children’s bulletins are specific to the sermon and theme of each Sunday’s worship service and are available from the ushers. We also provide "Power Packs" with a Bible, notebook, and other items to help children learn to listen and participate in the Sunday sermon. Children's Church workers will meet you in the foyer outside the sanctuary to receive your children and take them to Children’s Church; you can pick them up from their classroom after service.

Sunday School for Kids

Our Sunday School classes are designed to be a fun, safe, and age-appropriate learning time for children. We want to help reinforce the biblical instruction they receive at home through fun Bible lessons, projects, singing, offering, and interaction with other children. Our Preschool class is currently using the Bible in Life from David C. Cook. This curriculum helps introduce them to biblical truths and how they relate to their everyday lives and relationships. Our Kindergarten through 5th grade classes are currently using a curriculum from Answers in Genesis that will take them through the Bible from Creation to Christ. This curriculum introduces them to some foundational theological truths, apologetics, and a chronological approach to the Bible in an age-appropriate manner. A more detailed scope and sequence is available by quarter.

We provide classes for ages 3 years and up from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings between our two morning services at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m.

Kingdom Kids

This ministry is part of our THRIVE Wednesday Nights which is family focused with programs for ALL ages. It is our desire to help equip children to face difficulties in our current society. We want to do this through Bible memorization work, games, Bible lessons, and Christian adults taking the time to build into the lives of the next generation. Kingdom Kids is a program very similar to AWANA but produced in-house. Children participating in this program will have the opportunity to earn awards for Bible memorization and exhibiting Christian character through service, sportsmanship, attitudes, and much more! Children should be dropped off and signed in to their specific classroom.

If you have questions about this program or its registration costs, please contact the church office.
