The Good Samaritan

Today at Highland Baptist Church, Pastor Danny Gardner's sermon was from Luke 10:25-37. This passage is the parable of the good Samaritan. Jesus is asked what must be done to inherit eternal life.

Jesus allows this interruption, even though the man's motives may be impure, because the question is so important. Even though we avoid it, the question of where you will spend eternity is the most important question you need to answer. Jesus refers the man to the word of God.

The more knowledge we gain, the more defiant we are to God and the Bible. Ignorance of God's word makes us easier to manipulate. In our country there is no excuse not to know God's word. The last ten months have been a cultural commentary on how to think only of ourselves. Christians are to care for their neighbors, which is everyone else. It is not the government's job to do that.

Being a good Samaritan will come at a cost. But that is our calling. We are the rays of light the world needs.
