Today at Highland Baptist Church's online service, Pastor Danny Gardner's sermon was from Luke 10:17-20. The seventy-two disciples return from spreading the gospel. They boast about the power and protection Jesus bestowed on them.
Jesus reminds them where that power really comes from and that rather than rejoicing in their accomplishments, they should rejoice that their names are written in heaven. Christians are on a rescue mission. By spreading the gospel around the world, Satan's kingdom falls one soul at a time.
Rather than be joyful at Satan's destruction, we are to be joyful that Jesus finds us worthy of eternal life. We are to remember that, even when events don't unfold as we think they should. No matter what happens this coming Tuesday, God is on his throne.
