Today at Highland Baptist Church, Pastor Danny Gardner's sermon was from Luke 9:43-45. Too often we hear, but don't listen.
After Jesus healed the demon possessed boy, everyone was amazed and marveled at the majesty of God. While the crowd was praising Jesus, he told his disciples that he would be handed over to men who would kill him.
Even though the Old Testament prophecies, which the disciples knew, told of this, and even though Jesus told them plainly, they wanted a King to set up the kingdom now. So they did not understand because of the hardness of their hearts. We are like them, only understanding what we want to believe.
We can blame Judas or the Jews or the Romans, but Jesus purpose all along was to die on the cross for our sins and to rise from death as our savior. The sacrifice of Jesus makes us acceptable to God.
