Today at Highland Baptist Church, Pastor Danny Gardner's sermon was from Luke 9:26-36. This passage is about the transfiguration of Jesus. It is the most life defining moment of his life.
The transfiguration gives us a glimpse of what Jesus will be like when he returns. It is a reminder that Christ is no longer in the shame of the cross. Jesus took three witnesses- Peter, John, and James for this event. Jesus' entire appearance is altered, becoming the source of light.
Elijah and Moses are there, probably to encourage Jesus for the crucifixion he will have to endure. Their appearance shows that when believers die, we will be well taken care of. The cloud that descends on them is the same one that descended on the mountain when the law was given to Moses and is the presence of God. We have no need to be afraid of being in the presence of God when we believe in Jesus.
